I come on the Purcell Room’s stage to read some poems from my book Fantaisie Finale. All the poems are inspired by the world of contemporary art, identity fictions and fantasies about unknown stories or lovers. Then, I ask if a member of the audience knows how to play the piano. Someone comes on stage. Everybody’s waiting for the show to begin. I ask the person to play the piano, to musically accompany the end of my reading, following my breathing and my rhythm. We merge together. Finally, the person improvises a melody on their own.
